Our Heritage, Our Environment Programme 30th May-2nd June 2024

 

 

  Morning/Afternoon   Evening
Thursday 30th May (10.30am-2.00pm) Community Workday – when people can see or work on our developing community garden.

 

(10.00am -12.00pm) Church Doors Open – When people can view the building and the small display of historic photographs and objects which we will be available to view.

Refreshments will be available.

7.00pm ‘Wearside women who astonished the world’

This presentation is about three Sunderland women whose remarkable lives had a major international impact.

·       Margaret Dryburgh, missionary in China and Singapore, who created a remarkable ‘vocal orchestra’ in a women’s concentration camp in Sumatra.

·       Gertrude Bell, who championed the Arab cause during and after the first World War.

·       Janet Lacey, who founded Christian Aid, one of Britain’s most important international development charities

Presentation by Revd John McManners

 Refreshments will be available before the talk.

 

Friday 31st May (1.00pm -5.00pm) Church Doors Open – When people can view the building and the small display of historic photographs and objects which we will be available to view.

Refreshments will be available

 

6.00pm British social and cultural evening. We return the invitation after the wonderful Nigerian evening hosted last year by the Mountains of fire and miracles ministries.

The Silver Shantymen will perform. Followed by a buffet.

 

Saturday 1st June (12.00pm – 3.00pm) Church Doors Open       

Intergenerational Activity Day.

 

 

 

 

Sunday 2nd June

·       Arts, crafts and performances

·       Environmental Church Activities

·       Messy Church Type Activities

 

 

10.45am Worship celebrating our continuing

work to make our grounds a community asset

available for all. Led by Barabara Mitchell and

Christine Hutchinson assisted by Elisabeth Meikle

and Alison Dalton

 
  Followed by A reprise of dance performances by

young people of the Kathleen Knox Dance School

and a buffet lunch.
