Grindon URC is situated in Galway Road, just off the A183 on the southwest side of Sunderland. It is part of a large housing estate built in the 1950’s and seeks to engage with the community in a variety of ways. Being a small congregation it gains support from the wider URC Church partnership and Northern Synod employing a Church Related Community Worker to help bridge the gap between church and the needs of the community. It also has strong Ecumenical links with Holy Family RC and St Oswald’s C of E.

Grindon URC became a Mission Project of the Northern Synod of the United Reformed Church in 2014.

Working together, we have seen a number of projects established in recent years including: craft courses, the formation of a Beavers and Cubs group, a monthly Youth outreach in association with Youth For Christ, children’s holiday clubs, a food chain supplying fresh fruit and vegetables at low cost to the community.

Messy Church, an informal way of worship for families, is a monthly event at 3.30pm on the second Sunday of the month.

Success of the project is directly associated with the project Management team and User Group.
